Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves and for managing emotions within ourselves and with others.
EI is central to how employees, from entry-level jobs to top executives, work with other people. While maturity, common sense and social skills have long been associated with success, it is only recently that research has linked specific EI competencies to both individual and organizational performance.

- Achievement: Concern about working towards a standard of excellence
- Initiative: This is the ability to identify an obstacle, problem or opportunity and take action on it

- Organisational Awareness: reading the currents, decision networks, and politics at the organisational level
- Service: recognising and meeting the needs of followers and customers
- Why empathy is important at work:
- Attuning to others enables a leader to say and do the right thing, at the right time, and in the right way
- Motivating others means you must have empathy
- Empathy means you understand what drives someone to do or say or feel what they do, say or feel.
Topic 4. RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT competencies. Leadership styles. Resonant and dissonant Leaders.
- Inspiration: guiding and motivating with a compelling vision
- Influence: wielding a range of tactics for persuasion
- Developing Others: bolstering others’ abilities through feedback and guidance
- Change Catalyst: initiating, managing, and leading a new direction
- Conflict Management: de-escalating disagreements and orchestrating resolutions
- Teamwork and Collaboration: cooperation and team-building.
The Model of Resonant Leadership:
- Who Am I? (What am I aware of about myself)
- How Do I Lead and Inspire Others? (How do I use emotional intelligence in taking action as a leader?)
- What is the Climate in which We Work? (What are the collective emotions and attitudes created in the people you lead?)
